Color Schemes

A good designer always considers which colors look best with a particular project. They do this in part by taking information from the color wheel and relating it to their design.

Certain colors look best with others and the color wheel can help you find them. The color blue, for example, would complement orange. You might also want to consider designing with what are commonly termed “warm and cold colors” to create the correct feeling for your site. Try to devise a uniform color scheme for your site to give it a more professional appearance.

For a well-balanced color scheme, use a combination of the colors equidistant from each other on the color wheel.

Of course, there are a number of additional odds and ends to creating a successful and visually appealing color scheme. Anderson College has a helpful page with more tips in creating a color scheme. Take a look at http://users.anderson.edu/~jfultz/text.html. You might also find the site http://www.arnb.com/webdesign/chap7/cwheel/cwheel.htm useful for further color information.

Developing a workable color scheme is essential to creating a successful physiological environment on your Web site that creates certain moods and encourages your visitor to purchase a product or click on a certain button, etc. Its actually been proven to work!
